Attending Paranormal Cirque 3 in January was my Unicorn Challenge of the month. I’ve never been a big fan of horror, because my sisters would scare me. This experience was different. As soon as you step into the black-and-white striped tent, it feels like you were transported back in time. The circus has come to town. The smell of hot buttered popcorn fills the air, and your mouth starts to water. Beautiful masquerade masks are on sale, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
The preshow, with its haunted house theme, set the tone. The caretaker, shovel in hand, stood at the entrance like a gatekeeper to another world. I thought, "Go big or go home!" So, I ventured through the haunted house with its typical jump scares. But just as I was about to exit, something stroked my hair—yet no one was behind me. Creepy, right?
The main show featured a series of thrilling acts, each telling its own story. Dim lights flickered as a performer moved across the highwire on a motorcycle dangling a trapeze performer below, cracked whips, and dancing burlesque were the style. The juggler, who the caretaker from the cemetery played, was my favorite act. Then there was the chainsaw man, who always freaked me out as a teen—guess what? He still does! At one point, he brought out a body wrapped in a sheet… but no spoilers here. You’ll have to see the show for yourself.
There was even some vaudeville humor in the mix. One of the clowns lost a prop, so they threw him a backup and that is when I decided to join in the fun and threw my stuffed unicorn, Harley, onto the stage as well. My sweet, innocent Harley quickly turned dark, much like the show itself! Be warned: Paranormal Cirque is rated for adults, and while those aged 13-17 can attend with a parent, no one under 13 is allowed.
This cabaret-style show was highly entertaining and a Unicorn worth chasing. I even made some new friends along the way!
